Negros University – College of Engineering is staunch in
its vision to produce graduates who are technically
proficient, morally upright and well-equipped to meet
the global and local challenges and opportunities.
This
has been proven true after a Civil Engineering student
bagged the regional title in the recent National Civil
Engineering Student Quiz (NCESQ) – Regional Elimination
held last October 10, 2009 in Bacolod City and hosted by
the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE)
- Negros Occidental Chapter.
Engr.
Dioscoro P. Marañon, college dean stated that Norjon
Alfon, a junior CE student triumphed against 9 other
participating schools in Western Visayas including;
Central Philippine University, University of San
Agustin-Iloilo, Western Institute of Technology,
University of Iloilo, UNO-Recoletos-Bacolod City, Carlos
Hilado Memorial State College, Colegio de la Purisima
Concepcion, Garcia College of Technology and St.
Anthony’s College, among others.
Alfon was given a medal, trophy and cash prize,
according to PICE-SC adviser Engr. Rey A. Ramos.
The
prize was awarded by representative from the Department
of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Engr. Ailen S. Julit
and PICE-NOC president, Engr. Lea N. Delfinado.
Alfon will represent the region during the 35th
NCESQ 2009 Grand Finals during the 11th
National Civil Engineering Students’ Conference at Camp
John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City on
November 26-28, 2009.
The
event was aimed to develop PICE student members’
leadership skills and professionalism, increase the
level of civic consciousness, values and discipline,
promote social interaction among CE students and
finally, raise awareness and motivate the future
professionals to achieve academic excellence, as
contained in PICE Circular No. 2009-20.* (aipro/wnu)
