West
Negros University (WNU) through the Research Development
and Extension Office (RDEO) celebrated Wildlife Month in
collaboration with the Negros Forests and Ecological
Foundation, Inc. (NFEFI) with the theme, “Preserve our
home, Conserve wildlife, Protect their habitat.”
Through Provincial ordinance No. 002 Series of 2009, the
month of November is officially declared as Wildlife
Month for the province and it has been a month-long
celebration that started in 2005 and since its
inception, WNU has always been an active partner.
Essay-writing contests and Extemporaneous Speech
Competition, Mangrove Planting and Coastal Clean-up are
among the activities participated by the different
public and private schools in the province.
WNU
is the co-organizer of the said events which underscore
the academe’s support to the different biodiversity
conservation advocacies.
The
school, through its Green Campus Program
subscribes to WESNECAN Credo that man is part of the
natural order and must therefore respect and conserve
the environment and its ecology so that it may in turn
nurture and preserve its posterity. Its objectives are:
to spearhead and/or sustain environmental initiatives
that will serve as “Learning Laboratories” for students,
to inculcate the value of social responsibility and
sustainable development and to encourage active
participation of faculty, staff and students in any of
the projects in consonance with personal interest and
responsibilities.
It
has 7 components namely: Ecogarden (Biodiversity
Conservation and Education), Ecological Waste
Management, Energy Conservation, Campus Beautification
and Urban Gardening, Water Conservation, Environmental
Education and Special Activities.
The
program also promotes researches /projects which are
being transferred from the University to the community
level as sustainable livelihood project. The University
has been an active supporter of local and national
environmental activities in cooperation with government
