Thirty-six new graduates of the College of Maritime Studies (CMS) from the Seafaring: Catering/Stewarding Program joined the highly competitive workforce of the industry as they completed their training and education last July 11, 2012 at the WNU-Students Activity Center.

With the theme Job opportunities for global employment in the maritime industry through technical education, the graduates received their certificates of completion during the 5th Closing Ceremonies and witnessed by their parents and relatives.

Grand Regal Hotel’s Operations Manager, Sheila T. Arellano-Go and guest speaker, urged the group to find their own niche in the world where competition is tough and once in there, allow yourself to learn more, improve to be the best and never be afraid to take the road less travelled, since success will come in due time once you are skilled.

“Don’t just look for opportunities but look for a job that will provide you opportunities to grow and never be contented,” she added.

The 36 stewards were distributed to the following companies where they had their on-the-job trainings; O’Hotel, East View Hotel, Grand Regal Hotel, Sugarland Hotel and 11th Street Bed and Breakfast Inn, among others.

The guests and participants were earlier welcomed by the CMS dean, Capt. Eugenio J. Ynion and the candidates for graduation were accepted by Dr. Jorge A. Camposano, VP for Academic Affairs.

Special awards were distributed to deserving graduates who exemplifies excellence in their academic and OJT performance.

Steward Jose Ferdinand A. Gabrido Jr and Stwd. Marily Ambray gave the thanksgiving message and recited the pledge of loyalty, respectively.

They were also offered a prayer led by the Office of Student Affairs Coordinator, Mr. Allan Geagoni. *
