An inaugural service was led by West Negros University (WNU) President, Dr. Oscar S. Suarez commemorating the partnership of the University’s Institute of Language with OK English Academy held at IOL Building last January 9, 2011.

The program was made possible through IOL’s new program that caters to the needs of our international clientele more particularly the Korean students who come to the University to enhance their English speaking and writing skills. It will be exclusively utilized by Korean/international non-English speaking students studying English language under the supervision and monitoring of IOL director, Dr. Eleazar Occeña.

Dr. Suarez also stated that such will be a way of linking up with Korean institutions of higher learning

including; Suncheun Myang University, Mokwon University and Gonhju College, among others.

He further urges the students to feel at home in the Wesnecan community and make this educational experience something to be proud of.

Meanwhile, Hon. Jose Carlos Lacson, Vice-Chair, WNU Board of Regents said that the time has come for West Negros University to extend a hand of partnership beyond our national borders and begin to make its distinctive contributions in the search for relevant educational endeavors and lasting friendship within the global community.

“I look forward to seeing more Korean students and scholars on campus in the near future with the hope that we can learn from each other and grow together as we endeavor to bring WNU to the forefront of the never-ending search for institutional relevance,” Lacson added.

Myoung Ok Cho, on the other hand, expressed in behalf of the Korean group that they are honored for the trust and confidence of WNU most especially that the program will surely help them better. She is also happy of the warm gesture of the Wesnecans as they welcomed them to the fold and now they can officially say “We’re Wesencans, We Can!”*
