Comprehensive Health Program
The Health Services Department of West
Negros University is geared towards the promotion of
health among its Faculty, Staff and Students population
as a whole. Health Promotion consists of Disease
Prevention, Case-Finding and Curative
Medicine. Health Education is a very important
aspect of health promotion because it is believed that
the individual himself should be directly responsible
for his health and the better educated and informed he
is with regards to sound health practices, the better he
will be in a position to keep him healthy.
The Health Program could be divided into the
following main activities:
I. Disease Prevention
A.
The school provides the proper environment to
ensure the safety of the health of the school
population.
1. Provide safe and adequate water supply for
drinking.
a. It is to be noted that the school now
has a separate BACIWA connection which has a potable
water supply.
b.
Drinking fountains are provided in every
floor located in areas.
c.
The clinic is provided with potable drinking
water to facilitate the drinking of medications.
d.
Regular Laboratory Examination of water to
check on bacterial content is being done twice a
year.
2.
Water supply for all the comfort rooms is
adequate. Only with good and adequate running water
could the comfort rooms be kept clean and free from
smell.
3. Protect the students, faculty and staff
from exposure to the elements.
a.
The walkway from the gym to the main building has
been provided completely with roofing and adequate
lighting to prevent accidents from happening especially
at night.
4. Provide clean surroundings.
a.
Trash cans are enough in number so that
students have a place to dispose of garbage,
pieces of papers or food wrappers.
b.
The grasses around the school premises
are trim to encourage the students to keep the
place clean and beautiful.
5.
Food handlers in the school and its environment
are checked periodically to ensure that they are free
from diseases that could be transmitted through the
oral-fecal route. The City Health gives this service
free and health cards are issued if they pass the test.
a.
Regular Stool Exam, HBsAG test, Chest X-Ray
1.
New students in the Elementary should be required
to present record of immunization – prior to entering
school or within a period of time after enrolment. CMS
and HRM students should be required to have HBsAG test
and Hepa B vaccination.
2.
Provide immunization against Hepatitis B and
Tetanus to certain sectors as needed.
II. Case Finding
A. Annual Physical and Dental Examination of
Elementary Pupils and High School Students especially
the new entrants to the Integrated School.
B.
Pre – employment check – up Medical and Dental
Examinations including Chest X-rays, complete blood
count, urine analysis and stool examination.
C.
Annual Physical and Dental Examination of
employees. It is suggested that employees should have
Complete blood count, urine analysis stool exam and
Chest X-ray every year to screen for pulmonary
Tuberculosis.
III. Curative aspects of the Health
Services
A. Regular consultation for all Students,
Faculty and Staff.
B. If there is a need for the services of
a specialist, appropriate referral is done.
1.
Symptomatic treatment
2.
Cleaning and dressing of wounds
3.
Applying simple first aid measure
4.
Giving of follow-up injection
C. Emergency treatment of certain cases and referral
to a hospital if necessary.
IV. Health Services Activities:
A.
Training
on First Aid – to increase the base of health trained
personnel. This is done on going basis in coordination
with the Philippine National Red Cross. Each department
is asked to send a number of participants from its
student’s assistants, staff and faculty.
B.
Health
orientation for students.
C.
Send staff
members to occupational safety and health seminars.
D.
Health
staff is encouraged to upgrade themselves regularly so
that they will be u to date as to recent medical
development by attendance at seminars and conferences.
Note:
1.
To all
above services are rendered to the faculty, staff
and students free of charge.
2.
Records of school faculty, staff and students are
filled systematically and kept in the clinic.
3.
