Goal and Objectives of the Health Services Department

The School Health Program of West Negros University is based on the following Philosophy:

1. The school aims to provide a healthy environment wherein students, faculty and staff can obtain the optimum health, thereby functioning to its maximum potential.

2. The school believes that only when an individual is healthy can learning process be effective so that the bottom line for successful learning is a healthy individual in a healthful environment.

3. The school also believes that the individual should be taught to be responsible for keeping himself healthy. The health program shall endeavor to inculcate into students, faculty and other school personnel sound health practices that will rebound to the maintenance of good health and the prevention of disease.

4. The school also believes that the Health Services Department is in a strategic position to render primary medical care and to act as a bridge between the students and school personnel and the proper agencies that maybe in the best position to help the individual. It shall therefore serve as license between the school private or government health agencies involved.

5. Finally, the health program is the concern of all the administration faculty, staff and students and a healthy and open relationship among all school population can provide the wholesome atmosphere that makes a healthy population blossom.

General Objectives:

1. To promote health of the school population: health being defined as that quality of physical and mental well-being that enables one to live effectively and enjoyable. The World Health Organization defines health as “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.”

2. To promote health education among the school population meaning the growth within the person of his ability to understand health knowledge and apply this to himself.

3 To provide a healthful environment-physical as well as emotional, social and intellectual.

4 To reach out to the parents and the community with regards to health promotion and education.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The specific objectives are geared towards the 4 phases of the School Health Program namely:

1. Provision of healthful living in School.

2. Provision of Health Services.

3. Provision of Health Instructions.

4. Provision of Outreach Programs to community regards health.

The Health Services Department is composed of Medical Clinic and Dental Clinic. It is located on the right wing of the ground floor, fronting the Conference Room and beside the HRD Office.
