Green Campus Program
subscribes to WESNECAN Credo that
man is part of the natural order and
must therefore respect and conserve
the environment and its ecology so
that it may in turn nurture and
preserve its posterity. Its
objectives are: to spearhead and/or
sustain environmental initiatives
that will serve as “Learning
Laboratories” for students, to
inculcate the value of social
responsibility and sustainable
development among WESNECANS and to
encourage active participation of
faculty, staff and students in any
of the projects in consonance with
personal interest and
responsibilities.
It
has 7 components namely: Ecogarden
(Biodiversity Conservation and
Education), Ecological Waste
Management, Energy Conservation,
Campus Beautification and Urban
Gardening, Water Conservation,
Environmental Education and Special
Activities. The program also
promotes researches /projects which
are being transferred from the
University to the community level as
sustainable livelihood project. The
University has been an active
supporter of local and national
environmental activities in
cooperation with government and
non-government organizations.
Unique qualities:
Green Campus is a comprehensive and
integrated approach that involves
all colleges and offices within the
university. It is an
integral part of the Community
Extension Program tasked to promote
social and environmental awareness
among WESNECANS. The University is
recognized as a leading institution
in promoting environmental projects
that has local and global
implications. The Ecogarden
showcases diverse flora and fauna
and serves as laboratory where
students can study different aspects
of plant and animal life and how
they interact in nature. It is one
of the sites for educational field
trip of students from different
levels and serves as rescue center
for confiscated and donated wild
fauna. The ecological waste
management focuses on the
implementation of waste segregation,
collection and diversion. The
University has a Material Recovery
Facility and Recycling Center where
waste paper are made into handmade
paper. It spearheads the
development of recycling technology
like the Inventor’s Award that is
aimed at promoting research on
appropriate and marketable recycling
technologies.
