The MA in English is usually seen as bridge to Ph.D. studies, and our faculty is able to offer an exceptional background in a wide range of English studies. We also recognize that for some students the MA can be used for advancement in high school teaching or for employment at community colleges throughout the country. Basic Courses (9 Units)

EDUM 001 - Foundations of Education

This course deals with the foundations of education on the nature of man and society and the learning and teaching methodologies in consonance with the nature of man. It also deals with the different school of philosophy which covers the nature of man, the nature of truth, the nature of the universe and their educational implications to the school curriculum, the subject-matter, the teaching strategies in relation to the nature of students. It further includes a discussion of the influence of one's philosophy to one's chosen field/task.

EDUM 541 - Advanced Research Methods

The course provides knowledge on the different types of research designs, the elements of research, the use and justifications for research undertaking. Students are taught the validation of research proposal making, conduct of research and writing of research report.

EDUM 552 - Advanced Educational Statistics I

This course exposes students to signed numbers, summation rules, rounding off numbers, statistical terms, statistical tools and steps in a statistical investigation. It also cover the application of statistics in research undertaking and report.

Major Field/Concentration

EDUM 564 - Theories of Personality

Different theories on personality and their respective proponents are the focus of this course. This includes the basic concepts on personality development; the determinants of one's personality (biological and societal), the various types of personality, and issues of inter-personal relations using metabase of society.

EDUM 569 - Advanced Group Dynamics

This course exposes students to group dynamics as a field of research and technique. They are made to undergo the humanizing experiences that happen in the field of work which involve the self, others and the organization. More importantly they are made to experience how to design, facilitate and manage human dynamics session.

EDUM 574 - Personnel and Stress Management

This course includes methods, techniques and procedures in the selection, training, supervision and utilization of personnel. This includes job classification, employee evaluation, personnel development, employee benefits including promotions and rewards. It identifies job stress factors and how the manager and employees cope with varied stress-related factors for them to improve performance.

EDUM 578 - Techniques in Guidance and Counseling

This course discusses the different guidance and counseling resources and tools that professional guidance counselors utilize in helping clients understand themselves and their relationship with other people. This also includes inputs in Guidance program development and management in academic and non-academic settings.

EDUM 579 - Psychological Test & Measurement

This course exposes students to the different standardized psychological test and tools in human assessment. It includes in-depth discussion of the benefits and judicious use of these tools important in the counselor's array of techniques in understanding, predicting and in influencing behavior of their clients. More importantly, they will be made to undergo hands-on experience in administering, scoring and interpreting test results.

EDUM 603 - Human Development & Adjustment

This course provides a comprehensive study of the different phases of the human life cycle from conception to old age and the effects of each phase to the individuals total life adjustments.

EDUM 605 - Career Guidance

This course provides basic information in assisting young people make intelligent career choices and adjustments. It focuses on skills and tools useful in the academic growth as well as career planning of the individual.

EDUM 607 - Organization and Administration of Guidance Services

This course is designed to prepare students to be well equipped with necessary knowledge, skills, and values in organization and administration of guidance services in all levels. This course includes need assessment, planning, determining appropriate approaches to program organization and development. It also includes leadership and management of activities and functions of guidance staff. Counselors need to have a knowledge base on the functions, organization, administrative principles and evaluation of guidance services.

EDUM 608 - Philosophical, Psychological and Sociological Foundations of Guidance

This subject is an overview of the field of guidance and counseling. Knowledge of the philosophical, psychological and sociological foundations of guidance and counseling and their implications for professional practice are discussed. Professional activities and ethical practices of counselors and other helping educational and non-educational settings are stressed in this subject. Explorations of how personal values interact and impact upon counseling are likewise delved into.

EDUM 609 - Practicum in Guidance and Counseling

This course provides exposure of students to guidance work in school and in the community. This practicum stresses counseling skills and classroom guidance activities.

EDUM 521 - Japanese Language

The course is designed to equip students with a functional knowledge of the Niponggo language designed for day-to-day conversation.

EDUM 522 - Chinese Language

The course is designed to equip students with a functional knowledge of the Mandarin language designed for day-to-day conversation

EDUM 523 - Spanish Language

This course course is designed to equip students with a functional knowledge of the Spanish language designed for day-to-day conversation.

EDUM 606 - Information Technology: Word Processing and Information Generation

This course is designed to provide students knowledge and skills in word processing and in generating information technology. It also includes giving students opportunity to be exposed to latest state-of-the-art information technology available in big organizations and companies.

Thesis Writing

EDUM 701 - Thesis Writing I

The course is designed to help and guide students to prepare their research proposal which they have to defend before a panel of evaluators at the end of the semester.

EDUM 702 - Thesis Writing II

The course is designed to help and guide students to conduct their approved proposed study, analyze and interpret the data they have gathered, write the report and defend it before a panel of evaluators.
