Our Master of Arts in Education major in Administration and Supervision prepares practicing educators for a career in pre-K-12 school administration, as well as in a wide variety of leadership positions in: business, military, government and charter schools, community colleges, public and private schools and in other educational settings.

This degree program lays the groundwork for a lifelong path of leadership as a superintendent, principal or other administrator position, supported by a collaborative cohort of fellow educational and school leaders. Candidates hone effective leadership strategies for problem solving, conflict resolution and in working with diverse individuals and communities.

As an Educational Administration student, you will focus on:

  • The changing demographic and environmental context for schooling and education
  • The systems approach to planning, decision making and problem solving
  • The importance of human relations
  • The ability to make accurate self-assessments
  • Comprehensive models of academic assessment and achievement
  • Competent in administrative and supervising functions

Basic Courses (9 Units)

This course deals with the foundations of education on the nature of man and society and the learning and teaching methodologies in consonance with the nature of man. It also deals with the different school of philosophy which covers the nature of man, the nature of truth, the nature of the universe and their educational implications to the school curriculum, the subject-matter, the teaching strategies in relation to the nature of students. It further includes a discussion of the influence of one's philosophy to one's chosen field/task.

The course provides knowledge on the different types of research designs, the elements of research, the use and justifications for research undertaking. Students are taught the validation of research proposal making, conduct of research and writing of research report.

This course exposes students to signed numbers, summation rules, rounding off numbers, statistical terms, statistical tools and steps in a statistical investigation. It also cover the application of statistics in research undertaking and report.

Major Field/Concentration (Choose 6 subjects only) 

This course is designed to developed the leadership and management skills of the would-be school administrators through a practicum program particularly in school administration and supervision.
 

The course highlights current educational reform, thrusts, issues, innovations and problems in Philippine Education including strategies to meet the challenges that confront elementary, secondary and tertiary education. It also involves a study of the different issues and new developments in Philippine Education such as the DECS reorganization plans, the bilingual policy, the new secondary curriculum, consortia, accreditation, school taxation and budgeting. The course also includes comparison of the traditional concept and the modern concept of school administration and supervision.

This course covers the various components of financial planning and management that are applicable to educational organization. It includes mathematics of finance, types of control financial statements, budgeting and action planning applicable to nine areas of the educational system.

This course explores the use of planning models and analyzes various approaches deemed relevant to varied situations using as aids appropriate statistical tools and inferences.

This course deals with the behavior of man in an organization which affects organizational outputs. A macro presentation of the influential elements of human behavior involves critical synthesis to possess comprehensive framework as leads to successful management. Mastery learning of relevant theories and principles affecting human behavior is a requirement in order to be equipped in meeting challenges posed to future leaders/managers/members of organizations.

This course brings into focus the issue of rapid population growth, the concern for ecological balance and over-all social, economic and political development and how these three concerns are interrelated.

This course classically includes the managerial functions of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. It analyzes the different theories in management and types of managerial approaches, the managerial skills and leadership styles, and relevant cases in the application of different theories.

This course includes methods, techniques and procedures in the selection, training, supervision and utilization of personnel. This includes job classification, employee' evaluation, personnel development, employees benefits including promotions and rewards. It identifies job stress factors and how the manager and employee cope with varied stress - related factors for them to improve performance.

This course is designed to provide students knowledge and skills in word processing and in generating information technology. It also includes giving students opportunity to be exposed to latest state-of-the-art information technology available in big organizations and companies.



Thesis Writing

The course is designed to help and guide students to prepare their research proposal which they have to defend before a panel of evaluators at the end of the semester.

The course is designed to help and guide students to conduct their approved proposed study, analyze and interpret the data they have gathered, write the report and defend it before a panel of evaluators.
